Parachutes

As you begin wrapping things up for the year . . . Here's something you may like to wrap up next year!  Parachutes!  The Voice of the Martyrs has a wonderful parachute ministry.  This ministry assists and encourages Colombian Christians as well as trying to reach FARC guerrillas for Christ. Our school's Chapel offering has been used to donate to this ministry.

Our pack came with a pattern, ribbon and directions for making
the parachutes.  We will attach bags that a Bible, book and radio will
be placed into.

Students worked in groups of two on this project.  They were all
very interested and invested in this!

An eighth grader assists a kindergartner writing the words
God is love in Spanish.

We are waiting for the glue to dry!

That sums it up doesn't it?  God IS love!  This was a great service project for our school and would be a wonderful project for a VBS or Sunday School to undertake. If you would like to look into this for your school or church go to Parachute Project!

What was your most meaningful Chapel offering project this year?

Blessings....Hoping to hear from more parochial teachers out there!!

Heather's Heart and National Day of Prayer

One of the bloggers I follow is Heather's Heart.  Her posts are always always touching and meaningful.  She speaks from her heart in an open honest way.  Her poetry is outstanding and always touches my heart.  Because of her I've actually written some poems and shared them as well!  Her heart is filled with God's love for His sheep!  See if you can find the poem she wrote called "A Heart of Patience"  I've printed it out and posted it above my desk.  As things begin to wind down for the year, I'm finding myself reading it several times a day!  Heather is having a terrific give away that you should check out, too!

For National Day of Prayer my students and I spent time praying in our church.  We gathered around the alter on our knees and used the five finger prayer as a model for our own prayers.  Mostly we prayed on our own, but I guided them through each finger.  Do you know the five finger prayer?  Our thumbs are closest to us when folded in prayer so we pray for family and friends because they are closest to our hearts.  Our pointer fingers remind us of people who point us to Jesus...pastors, and teachers.  The tallest finger reminds us of those in authority, so we prayed for our president, governor, police officers, and mayors.  The weakest finger is our ring finger, so we pray for people who are weak or sick.  Finally , we pray for ourselves when we get to our pinky finger.  We made these booklets to take home and keep by our bed to guide us in our own prayers at home, too!

One one side of our booklet we glued a copy of The Lord's Prayer.
I traced around their hand with the pinky side on the fold.  They cut their own hands
out and folded them.
God bless you as you lead little lambs to The Shepherd!

Welcome, Gary!

I found one!  I found one!  A fellow Lutheran teacher blogger has been located!  He didn't jump into the spotlight but after turning over a rock or two, and with the help of a friend I found someone to feature.

Gary is an old friend from college.  Which means he's not old!  I thought he was pretty funny and imaginative back in the day and I know he must be an excellent teacher.  His students are blessed to have him.  My fondest memory of Gary is his ability to eat an apple whole.  He could put the whole thing in his mouth and eat it without spitting anything out...That's how neat he is.  Gary, was it also you who could shoot plastic juice cups from your mouth up into the air? ( I also became quite proficient at that task!)

Please take some time to go see Gary and tell him Sheep Tending Sheep sent you!
Blessings!

Hello? Anyone out there?

I have scoured the internet looking for other Lutheran or Christian day school bloggers.  They have to be out there!  I want to share encouragement, support and prayer with other parochial teachers.  I may be following other parochal teachers right now, but not know it.   Maybe there are days that are filled with coaching, tutoring, and leading youth group activities and you don't have time to blog, but would like to know other Christian teacher bloggers and seek out ideas that will bring or keep excitement into your daily teaching routine.

I'm not sure exactly how this will work.  Maybe I'll never have a follower.  I just felt I had to try.  If I build it, will they come?  I'm about to find out!  If you would enjoy networking with other parochial teachers please leave me a message in the comment box.  I'll feature your blog and add you to our growing blog list on the sidebar.  If you have ideas for how to make this network more effective...Please let me know.

Here is a link to my blog: Owl Things First  You'll see that I teach first grade in the morning and computer and music in the afternoons. I received my Lutheran Teaching degree from Concordia-U Ann Arbor...Sometime in the past!
I can't wait to meet you!
